The Young Actors Theatre of Tallahassee (YAT) was founded in 1975 by current Executive Director Tina Williams.  YAT has been providing quality theatre education and performances to Tallahassee and surrounding communities ever since.  Our teachers have worked and studied professionally in their fields and are trained to offer students the highest quality education.

“YAT in Wakulla County” students will benefit from our 33 years of experience.  Our curriculum is designed to provide social and developmental benefits to children.  The program will strive to:

  • Strengthen self-esteem
  • Develop communication skills
  • Nurture individuality
  • Expand the ability to work well with others
  • Cultivate an appreciation for the arts 
  •  Provide positive adult role models
  • Develop self-expression
  • Improve physical development and coordination
  • Ensure a fun, safe environment for the entire family

The following classes will be offered for the ’08-’09 school year:

Jellybeaners    3 – 5 year olds    Wednesdays  10:30am-11:30am
$150/ 12 week session
Introduce students to various methods of playacting thru creative drama, music and movement with an emphasis on Fairy Tales.

Drama Kids    K- 2nd Grade    Wednesdays 4:00pm- 5:00pm
$150/ 12 week session
With an emphasis on children’s literature, students can stretch their imagination thru role playing and dramatizing scenes.

Studio Players    3rd – 5th  Grade    Wednesdays 5:00pm- 6:00pm
$150/ 12 week session

Introduction to theatre arts where students can create characters and dramatize scenes thru current popular books.

Rising Stars    7th – 12th Grade     Wednesdays  3:00pm – 4:00pm
$150/ 12 week session

Exploration of the performing arts thru acting techniques, theatre games and musical theatre styles with an emphasis on Broadway shows.

All classes will conclude with a presentation for family to attend.


Faculty:  Bree Lovel has a long history with Young Actors Theatre.  As a student, she participated in over thirty productions, often featured in a leading role.  After graduation, she worked as a drama instructor for six years.  She also adapted and directed several full-scale productions, including “The Secret Garden” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.  After earning a degree from FSU with majors in Child Development and Psychology, Bree served as the Children’s Librarian for the Wakulla County Public Library where she lead programs for infants and toddlers, preschool children, as well as elementary and middle school students.
