From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

Several issues have come up as the week has progressed which prompted us to send out an additional newsletter this week. A coastal flood advisory has been issued for areas along the Wakulla County coast that are normally prone to flooding. See our link below for high and low tide times for both Shell Point and St. Marks.

Also, as many of you know, the Board of County Commissioners met this past Tuesday evening to decide whether or not the impact fees normally placed on new construction should be temporarily waived for a year. The end result was a 3 - 2 vote with the moratorium passing as originally written, minus one paragraph that had to do with retroactive fees that commissioners deemed non-applicable. Today a Wakulla County resident filed a complaint in Circuit Court challenging the legality of the moratorium on the collection of impact fees. It will be interesting to see how this all falls out.

Next week is Homecoming Week at Wakulla High School; see our article below for information on all the festivities that will go on throughout the week.

Wakulla Pregnancy Center is hosting a picnic on Saturday, September 12 for all their volunteers. Bring a library book to donate and you will not have to pay the park entrance fee.

Big Bend Hospice is hosting a complimentary luncheon for all Wakulla County clergy on Thursday, September 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Wildwood Clubhouse Bistro. The luncheon will be a time for fellowship and discussion on ways area clergy and Big Bend Hospice can continue to work together to care for the Wakulla County community. Clergy members will learn more about the spiritual care programs at Big Bend Hospice, how free grief support services can be provided at individual churches and how congregations can receive volunteer training so that members of their congregation can volunteer to care for other members of their church or temple who are critically ill. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Pam Albritton at 508-8749.

Well, have a good weekend; remember to watch the tides!

Sincerely,

Mary Katherine Westmark

If we want Wakulla County to provide the resources that we expect from our community, it needs to be more than a bedroom community for our neighbor to the north; we must be able to live, work, and play here.

We need new leadership, open to creative and innovative new ideas. We need leadership that is open and accessible. Elect someone who will work for you, by working with you!
