From the Publisher:
Dear Readers,
Well, we were watching Hurricane Ike last week, and I guess we still need to keep an eye on it this week as well. Although it looks like it is headed for Texas, once it gets into the Gulf of Mexico, it could change its mind. Hopefully it will just keep on heading westerly.
Once again, I would like to remind readers that we will not be accepting negative campaign letters from now until the election. We welcome letters of endorsement for those candidates you are supporting; tell us why they should be elected; what they stand for; and what positive attributes they will bring to their office if elected. Thanks for your understanding in this matter. Negative letters just seem to have a snowball effect, and we don't want the site to roll down that slippery slope this season.
There will be a special meeting tonight at the Commission Chambers starting at 6:00 p.m. regarding recommended amendments to the FY2008/2009 Tentative Budget and to conduct the first Public Hearing on the Tentative Budget. Immediately following this will be a Public Hearing to adopt a resolution declaring that an emergency exists by imposing a temporary, 365-day moratorium on the assessment and collection of impact fees within Wakulla County. The meeting will be televised on Comcast for the public to view. See our link below for more information and to view the meeting agenda.
The Wakulla High War Eagles varsity football team won their first game of the 2008 season against Taylor County with a score of 37 - 7. Congratulations to the team, and kudos to Lorenzo Randolph who scored three touchdowns during the game.
The Wakulla High School NJROTC is selling tickets to their 16th Annual Fish Fry to be held on Friday, September 26 prior to the WHS vs. Rickards game at J. D. Jones Stadium. Tickets are $6 each, and the food will be cooked up piping hot and fresh by Posey's Catering Service. You can purchase your tickets from any NJROTC member; look for them after school at Winn-Dixie (that's where I got mine!)
Another reminder that the Coastal Optimist members are selling tickets for their 2008 Fashion Extravaganza ( last years photo gallery) to be held on the evening of Friday, October 3 at the Bistro at Wildwood. Tickets are $40 per person, and only 150 will be sold. All proceeds will benefit the youth of Wakulla County, so get your tickets early before they are sold out. See our link below for more information.
If you are a yard sale fanatic, check out our link on the lefthand side of the site to see where to go for the best deals this weekend.
Have a great week, and thanks as always for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mary Katherine Westmark
Publisher, Wakulla.com

Alan Brock for County Commission District 1
If we want Wakulla County to provide the resources that we expect from our community, it needs to be more than a bedroom community for our neighbor to the north; we must be able to live, work, and play here.
We need new leadership, open to creative and innovative new ideas. We need leadership that is open and accessible. Elect someone who will work for you, by working with you!
Elect Alan Brock for District 1 Wakulla County Commissioner.
