Vote Dr. Andrea Carter for Superintendent of Schools - Click Here for more InformationDr. Andrea Carter for Superintendent of Schools

We are all proud of Wakulla's school grades, but we must also be aware that these grades are based entirely on students' FCAT scores. Andrea Carter knows that the FCAT does not define the complete, well rounded education we need to provide students for their success in the 21st century. If you want our students Ready for Work; Ready for College and Ready for Life, elect Dr. Andrea Carter, Superintendent of Schools, Wakulla County.

From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

It's been another busy week, especially at Wakulla High School where they are in the middle of Homecoming 2008! Students and faculty members are having lots of fun this week dressing up in goofy costumes to celebrate each of the "themed" days of Homecoming Week. This year's theme is "A Red Carpet Affair", with a Hollywood flair. Today the kids are dressing up as their favorite celebrities, so we should get some pretty good pictures. The Powder Puff Football Game will be held this evening at J.D. Jones Stadium with the Junior girls playing the Senior girls in a game of "not so fluffy" touch football. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday will be Spirit Day, where the students will dress in red, white and blue; the big pep rally will be held at the stadium at 12:40 p.m. Friday night's game against Trinity Christian will be the final event of the week, with the crowning of the 2008 Homecoming Queen and King at halftime. Check out our link below for the names of the Class Representatives and the Queen and King candidates.

This weekend brings two cleanup events: both the Keep Wakulla County Beautiful Coastal Cleanup and the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge Coastal Cleanup. Check out our links below for details about start and end times, where to meet, etc. There will be an Embarq-sponsored party with lunch at Woolley Park at 10:30 a.m. for all who participate in the Keep Wakulla County Beautiful cleanup, and all those who return with coastal trash to the visitor's center at the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge will also receive lunch and several other goodies. Come on out and "get trashed"!

Also, just a few reminders about voting in the upcoming November 4 General Election. If you haven't yet registered to vote, you must do so by Monday, October 6. There are several ways to register. You can register online at http://www.wakullaelection.com , or get a mail-in registration form at either the Wakulla County Public Library, the Wakulla County Supervisor of Elections Office in Crawfordville, or at the Driver's License Office. If you aren't physically able to come to the polls to vote, you can vote early from home by requesting an absentee ballot. Just call 026-7575 to request your ballot, or email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . Include the voter's name, birth date, address, and mailing address. For your convenience, you can vote early at the Wakulla County Supervisor of Elections Office from Monday, October 20 through Saturday, November 1 (closed on Sundays). Please remember how many people fought and died for your right to vote; and women, remember what your ancestors went through to win your right to vote. Don't disrespect their sacrifices by choosing not to exercise your right to vote. It is a big deal.

Alright; I'll come down off the soapbox now. Have a great rest of the week and weekend. Thanks for supporting our site; going strong since 2005!

Sincerely,

Mary Katherine Westmark
Publisher, Wakulla.com

P.S. Don't forget to send your birth, birthday, wedding and engagement announcements to us at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it , and include a picture or two if you'd like! They are always free on Wakulla.com! Also, be sure to post your Yard Sales in our Free Classified Ads!

If we want Wakulla County to provide the resources that we expect from our community, it needs to be more than a bedroom community for our neighbor to the north; we must be able to live, work, and play here.

We need new leadership, open to creative and innovative new ideas. We need leadership that is open and accessible. Elect someone who will work for you, by working with you!
