Selling Wakulla County Homes every Day!

From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

It has been a busy week, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel as today is Friday! I hope you have some great plans lined up; we will be at the Medart Rec Park for the third time this week! But, it's all good. As a matter of fact, there is a special ceremony planned for Saturday morning at the Rec Park; an Opening Ceremony to celebrate the start of baseball and softball seasons. County Administrator Ben Pingree will be "throwing the first pitch" at 9:30 a.m., and I am going to be ready with my camera (watch out, Ben!). Anyway, it should be a fun "official kick-off" to the spring sports season here in Wakulla County, so come out and take part in the festivities.

The Florida Wild Mammal Association is hosting a giant yard sale at Hudson Park in Crawfordville both today, March 7, and Saturday, March 8. All the proceeds go towards helping orphaned and injured wildlife here in Wakulla County, so come get some bargains and help out a great cause at the same time. Chris and Mike Beatty (and their daughter Jessica) are the folks who head up the FWMA, and they work tirelessly and selflessly (and almost non-stop) for a cause they feel very passionate about. This is a way we can give something back to them for what they do.

Keep Wakulla County Beautiful is hosting their semi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day at the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Annex at 340 Trice Lane (Google Map) this weekend, as well. The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m., and will continue until 1:30 p.m. Check out our link below to find out what all you can bring. Some of the items are batteries, flourescent bulbs (including the new compact ones), computer parts, and pesticides. Old tires will also be accepted, thanks to the generosity of Wal-Mart. Apparently, they are very expensive to dispose of. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to clean out your storage sheds (and underneath your kitchen sink!).

The Wakulla Pregnancy Center will host their 2nd annual Lifewalk at Wakulla Springs on Saturday as well. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the actual walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. Bundle up and come out for a great cause, and get your morning exercise as well. It's a win-win!

A benefit (Wakulla.com, Tallahassee Democrat ) will be held Friday night, March 7, at 8:15 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Tallahassee (Google Map) with proceeds going towards the Wakulla Independent Reporter, a newspaper run solely by Wakulla County resident Julia Hanway (from www.wakulla--noir.blogspot.com ). Wakulla's own Grant Peeples will be playing, along with musician and comic Roy Zimmerman. It should be an entertaining evening, so come out and support freedom of the press, and have some fun at the same time!

Don't forget to get your tickets for the Wakulla Community Theatre's presentation of "The Sound of Music". Shows are scheduled for March 14, 15, 21, and 22 at the historic Sopchoppy Auditorium in Sopchoppy (Google map). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. I've heard from some of the cast and crew members that the show is going to be fabulous, so make sure to call for your tickets before they're all sold out. It's kind of fun to watch your friends and neighbors show off a different side of their personality up on the stage, and there is some great talent here in our county. And, you don't want to miss Buddy Updegraff in knee socks! (Just kidding Buddy!! You're great!!)

We've posted the results of the Underage Drinking Survey in this week's newsletter as well, so take some time to check it out and see how some of the folks in the county feel about the subject. It was pretty enlightening. Thanks again to all of you who participated by taking the survey; the Wakulla County Coalition for Youth really appreciates your help.

I've added a new link to the top of the Home page of the site; it's called "THIS WEEK IN WAKULLA... What You Need to Know Right Now! I would love your feedback on this; I'm attempting to make it easier to locate the events that are occurring each week; kind of a "touch of a button" deal. I'll update the contents each week to list what I feel are the most important events happening at the time. Anyway, the site is a continuous work-in-progress, so let me know what you think.

Well, have a great weekend, and don't forget to set your clocks forward before you go to bed Saturday night for Daylight Savings Time.

Sincerely,

Mary Katherine Westmark
Publisher, Wakulla.com

P.S. Don't forget to send your birth, birthday, wedding and engagement announcements to us at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it , and include a picture or two if you'd like! They are always free on Wakulla.com! Also, be sure to post your Yard Sales in our Free Classified Ads!
