From the Publisher:
Dear Readers,
As you have hopefully noticed, we have undergone quite a few changes in the past couple of months! We finally got the new site launched, and have been working hard to get it in tip-top shape for all you readers out there. We still have a few bugs and kinks to work out, so please continue to be patient with us for the next few months. If you notice any problems or bugs as you peruse through the site, please let us know. Your detective work can help us get the site working to its' full potential faster. You can email me directly at mkwestmark@wakulla.com with any issues you come across. We apologize for the absence of the newsletter during this time, but it was one of the components that had the most bugs to straighten out. Hopefully, this one will get to you okay! It's sort of our inaugural mailing!
We still have all the old favorites: free classified ads, free Wakulla County business directory, Wakulla County real estate, Community Calendar, Lost Pets, Wakulla Yard Sales, Photo Galleries, etc., but we've added some new features, as well. We now have a blog section on the site, a "My Community" section, and a direct tie-in to Facebook and Twitter. We've tried to simplify the navigation bars as well, consolidating some of the sections together to make it easier to find what you are looking for.
The Home Page of the site still has the Latest Headlines displayed in the center well, and there are several links above the article list that allow you to view the "Most Popular" articles, the "Latest Comments", and the "Activity Stream" (which shows you the latest items directly submitted by our readers). We have highlighted the Events This Week, Vacation Bible Schools, Gulf Oil Crisis Information, and the Arts and Entertainment Calendar on the Home Page with graphic icons.
Our Community Calendar has had a much needed makeover, and we hope you will find it easier to use. You can view events by the month, week, or day. You can also view events by category, such as Wakulla County Government Events, Community Service Events, Club and Organization Events, Arts and Entertainment Events, School Events, etc. You can also add your own events through the "Add an event" link displayed at the bottom of the Community Calendar detail page.
There are also modules on the Home Page that let you see the week's weather, the latest real estate availability, and the latest Wakulla.com blog entries.
If you haven't taken the time to check out all the new features, try to make some time over the next few weeks to do so. We think you will like the changes and additions.
Thanks again for your support, and thanks for sticking with us over the past few months. Visit our Wakulla.com Facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/wakulla.com and let us know you like us!!
Sincerely,
Mary Katherine Westmark

Dear Community:
Thank you to everyone who attended or otherwise contributed to a wonderful event on Thursday July 1st...
Marine Biologist Dr. Riki Ott will give a 40-minute presentation on marine oil disasters and their long term effects on Friday, July 23 from 7pm to 9pm at the new Wakulla County Community Center (formerly New Life Church), located on the corner of Trice Lane and Shadeville Hwy. (Hwy. 61). She will then facilitate a positive public forum with the people present and help them expand their community action plan.
Dr. Ott has a degree in marine toxicology with a specialty in oil pollution. She became a marine biologist, but chose to make her living in commercial fishing in Alaska. Just four years later, in 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of oil into Prince William Sound. She was there when the local economy, communities, and thousands of miles of environment were devastated. And then ignored. She experienced firsthand the horrific effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill – and chose to do something about it. She is the author of two books on the subject. Now she has come to the Gulf Coast to volunteer her time and actively assist with the oil disaster. She is often featured in that role on CNN and other news media as she travels around the Gulf Coast during this crisis.
