Selling Wakulla County Homes every Day!

From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

It's been a pretty eventful week here in Wakulla County! For good or bad, Amendment 1 passed with 64.4% of the vote here in Florida this past Tuesday, and that will mean some changes to the way we do things here in Wakulla County. Read what County Administrator Ben Pingree had to say about it in our Local News section below.

Another reminder that the Rotary Valentines Day Celebration (10th Annual; held in Hudson Park!) is coming up on Saturday, February 9, and vendors and parade entries are still being sought. Support the Rotary club and be a participant! Check out the links below for more details about the event and about what Rotary does for Wakulla County.

A reminder as well to all Wakulla County smokers who have been looking for a good reason to quit... the Quit and Win campaign will help you break the habit, and you can win some great cash prizes in the process, including $500! The event will officially kick off on February 10, 2008. It's being sponsored by the Wakulla County Health Care Task Force and the Wakulla County Health Department, as well as other local health care providers and businesses. You can download the registration form here on Wakulla.com, or you can pick it up at the library, health department, and other local health providers. It must be turned in by February 9. Just mail it in to the address given in the article below, or drop it off at the "Quit and Win" booth at the Rotary Valentines Celebration on February 9.

The St. Marks Wildlife Refuge is hosting their 2nd annual Wildlife Heritage and Outdoors Festival this Saturday, February 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event boasts all sorts of activities, including vendors, informational booths, tours of the Keeper's Quarters in the St. Marks Lighthouse, delicious food from Kast Net and the Wakulla Volunteer Fire Department, children's activities, and much more. Visit our link below under Festivals and Celebrations for a complete list of the activities planned for this family-oriented festival.

The African-American Read-In Chain, sponsored by the Wakulla County Christian Coaltion, the Wakulla County Public Library, and the Black History Month Festival is being held this Sunday, February 3 at the Wakulla County Public Library from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guest author La Joyce Brookshire, nationally known author of “Faith Under Fire, Betrayed By Love”, will sign copies of her book and make a presentation. Other local authors will also appear on the program as well as local poets, monologists and readers. See our link below under Announcements for more information about this event.

Another interesting event of note is the 34th Annual Tallahassee Marathon, which will be taking place on Sunday, February 3. Runners will be on the St. Marks Trail between the hours of 9:00 and 12:00 noon, so if you live along the trail, come out and cheer them on towards their goal. There will be runners from at least 29 states and 4 foreign countries participating.

Finally, this is the last day to take the "Parent/Community Underage Drinking Survey" on Wakulla.com. If you haven't taken the time to complete this survey, please do so. It's very quick and simple (just a couple of minutes), and the results are completely anonymous. You can get to it by clicking this link or looking for the "Underage Drinking Survey" banners on the home page of Wakulla.com. We are asking that only parents and other adult community members take the survey; Wakulla County students have already responded to a similar survey. Thanks for your help with this important project!

According to Weather.com, there is only a 10% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures in the upper 60's and lower 70's, so it should be nice for outdoor activities. So get out there and have a good one!

Sincerely,

Mary Katherine Westmark
Publisher, Wakulla.com

P.S. Don't forget to send us your birth, birthday, wedding and engagement announcements to us at mkwestmark@wakulla.com, and include a picture or two if you'd like! They are always free on Wakulla.com!

Note from the Admin:

We've had a lot of photo gallery problems over the last two weeks and hopefully we've got them all resolved. Do Mary Katherine a favor and give her a call (445-4222) or shoot her an email if you see something wrong with the site OR notice something that is not working as it should. Often we don't find out that things are broken until someone someone points it out days later.
