From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

I trust you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! After a rocky start, ours ended up being lots of fun. We loaded up the RV and headed up to Choestoe, Georgia to spend the holiday with my husband's family, normally a 7 hour drive. A set of locked brakes, a malfunctioning sending unit, a 1:30 a.m. tow truck ride, two blown tires, and 36 hours later, we finally made it. Cousin Eddie would have been proud. But, once there, the company was super, the food was delicious, the kids had a blast, and we wouldn't have changed a thing. And, we now have an RV that's loaded for bear.

The holiday season is in full swing now, with great events happening all over Wakulla County. This weekend brings several activities, including the Medart Elementary School Winter Festival, which will take place Friday night from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the school grounds. Extra lighting has been brought in, so security will not be an issue. In addition to all the normal great games, food, and prizes, there will be snow on the ground, and you can visit with Santa! Parents, bring your camera to be sure to get that perfect shot.

The Big Kahunas will play at Wakulla Springs this Friday night from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. to raise money for the park. The event, hosted by the Friends of Wakulla Springs, promises to be a great time, with 60's and 70's dance music and a cash bar. A dinner will be served prior to the dance party; check out our link below for the specifics.

The Big Bend Hospice Annual Service of Remembrance will also take place Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Crawfordville's Hudson Park. Come out and celebrate the lives of loved ones at this wonderful ceremony. Refreshments will be served following the service.

The community of Shell Point will host their annual Holiday Golf Cart Parade this Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon. The parade will begin along the beach at Shell Point, and then winds throughout the Shell Point area. A potluck lunch will be served at the Shell Point Volunteer Fire Department afterwards. Bring the kids out for what is sure to be a fun event. It's amazing what you can do to a golf cart with a little bit of Christmas decor!!

The public library will host their annual Fall Fling Fundraiser during the day at the library on Saturday. Books, Christmas ornaments and holiday gifts will be on sale to raise money to fund the wonderful programs offered each year by the library. Come out and show your support for this wonderful facility.

The VFW 4538 Ladies Auxiliary will host a Chinese Auction (?? definition ??) on Friday, December 5 at their facility on Arran Road in Crawfordville (just past Crawfordville Elementary School). It should be a fun night with lots of great items to bid on.

Finally, the Wakulla Storm Travel Volleyball Club will be making their team selection this Saturday at the Wakulla High School gym from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If your daughter is aged 10 to 18 and is interested in playing, make sure you attend this event.

Have a great weekend; stay warm and finish getting those decorations up!

Sincerely,

Mary Katherine Westmark
