From the Publisher:
Dear Readers,
This has been a roller coaster week for Wakulla County residents as we've watched the rivers rise and fall due to the effects of Tropical Storm Fay:
St. Marks River at Newport
Sopchoppy River
Ochlockonee River at Bloxham
Currently, a mandatory evacuation is in place for all of the Ochlockonee River area, and for the upper St. Marks area above the Newport River Bridge on U.S. 98. If you live in either of these areas, make sure you secure your property before you leave. Also, take measures to ensure that any pets are safely out of danger. We've added links in the evacuation related articles below to charts that let you monitor the rise and fall of the St. Marks, Ochlockonee and Sopchoppy river levels in real-time. Now we just have to keep our eye on Tropical Storm Hurricane Gustav. As of this writing, the NOAA website shows the storm's path crossing over Cuba by 2:00 p.m. Friday.
Today is Primary Election Day in Wakulla County, so please make every effort to get to your polling location and exercise your right to vote. According to the Supervisor of Elections website, the polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are normally less busy during mid-morning and mid-afternoon. For a list of the polling locations, see our link below or visit the Supervisor of Elections website at http://www.wakullaelection.com . You can also see a copy of the primary ballot on the Supervisor of Elections website. Also, the election results will be shown tomorrow night on Comcast Channel 16, and we will provide them as well later in the evening here on Wakulla.com . Also, if you're still undecided, visit our link below to the wfsu.org "Bandwagon 2008" feature which will allow you to hear the primary election candidates speak for 3 minutes each.
Mary Mooney, a Democratic National Convention delegate from Wakulla County, is currently blogging about her experiences there in Denver. We've received three entries so far, and it's pretty amazing to read her perspective on what's going on out in Denver. See our links below under Community Columnists to read her articles for yourself.
Don't forget to post your yard sales on the site! Remember, it's free, and we now have a "quick link" on the lefthand side of the site that will take you directly to a list of yard sales scheduled for the current week.
Have a great rest of the week, and try to stay dry. To those of you who are dealing with flooding, please be careful, make wise choices, and hang in there.
Sincerely,
Mary Katherine Westmark
Publisher, Wakulla.com
P.S. Don't forget to send your birth, birthday, wedding and engagement announcements to us at mkwestmark@wakulla.com, and include a picture or two if you'd like! They are always free on Wakulla.com! Also, be sure to post your Yard Sales in our Free Classified Ads!

Alan Brock for County Commission District 1
If we want Wakulla County to provide the resources that we expect from our community, it needs to be more than a bedroom community for our neighbor to the north; we must be able to live, work, and play here.
We need new leadership, open to creative and innovative new ideas. We need leadership that is open and accessible. Elect someone who will work for you, by working with you!
Elect Alan Brock for District 1 Wakulla County Commissioner.
