From the Publisher:

Dear Readers,

I hope you all had a great spring break week! It sure was hard to get back in the swing of things this past Monday; 6:00 a.m. came early for the kids (and me, too). I just keep reminding them that they only have a little over a month of school left. I don't know where this year has gone; it has definitely flown by.

There is SO MUCH going on this weekend! Friday evening brings the Wakulla Relay for Life "Carnival of Hope" Celebration, kicking off at 6:00 p.m. at the Wakulla High School track. This years' event promises to be an event filled with carnival games, great musical entertainment, dancers, food, and socializing, so make sure you bring the kids! The event will continue until 12:00 noon on Saturday, when the closing ceremony will be held. Teams will walk the track throughout the night, symbolizing the idea that "cancer never sleeps". If you've never been out to Relay before, you should try to at least come for the opening ceremonies and the Survivor Lap. I actually stayed away from Relay the first couple of years it was held, because I thought it would be too sad. When I finally went, I realized just how wrong I had been. It's a very upbeat, high energy evening, and you'll be surrounded by your friends and neighbors. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and Relay has a way of putting it all into perspective in a very positive, unifying way. So, come out and be a part of things. You'll wish you'd done it sooner.

There will be a benefit celebration in Hudson Park on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for 16 year old Wakulla High School student (and wrestler) Travis Hinsey. Travis has been diagnosed with cancer, and the event is a fundraiser to help his family deal with the extra expenses they have accrued. The event will feature live music, entertainment, exhibitions, fish fry, BBQ, silent auctions, raffles, a bake sale, and much more! Drawings will be held throughout the day beginning at 12:00 p.m. with the Grand Prize drawings being held at 8:00 p.m., and from what I understand, there are some jam up items to be won! Travis has also been named the Honorary Survivor for the Relay for Life Celebration, so this will be a very busy weekend for him. Plan to come by, have lunch, and enjoy the musical entertainment. See our article link below for the entertainment lineup.

There will be a huge yard sale held at Wakulla High School on Saturday to benefit the Special Olympics program. Plan to stop by and do a little shopping as you are leaving Relay for Life.

Let's see; what else is happening? CHAT will host an "Unbirthday Party" for cats at the CHAT facility located next to the Wakulla Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 17 from 1 to 4. There will be cake, ice cream, face painting, games, and more; lots of fun for the whole family. All proceeds will benefit the cats of CHAT.

Also, Wakulla Springs Baptist Church will host a Trout Fishing Tournament Saturday, with prizes being awarded based on the number of entries. See our link below under Wakulla Outdoors for more details.

I know there are a couple more things going on Saturday, so check out the links below to make sure you don't miss any of them!! Another great place to look is under the section titled "THIS WEEK IN WAKULLA; What You Need to Know Right Now!" which is located near the top of the Wakulla.com Home Page. I try to keep it updated each week with a list of links to all the events that are happening during that particular week. It's kind of a "snap shot" of all that is happening so that you can find it all in one spot.

Well, have a great weekend, whatever you spend it doing! Thanks again for supporting Wakulla.com .
