Scott Paterna's Fishing Report

  April 20, 2007

Brave anglers were rewarded over the weekend.  The North wind allowed anglers to tuck in along the shorelines East of The St. Marks Lighthouse.  Colby Fletcher boated a 36 inch cobia in the Rock Garden while trout fishing.  He was tossing glow jigs when he thought he had the biggest trout of his life.  He fished with Eric Keyser  who boated a limit of trout.  He used Gulp jigs and Redfin Lures.

Believe it or not Payam Nabizdeh fished the flats in about 10 feet of water, East of the lighthouse, chumming for Cobia.  He was surprised to catch a nice 25 inch 10 pound grouper ON 6, YES 6 POUND TEST!!  "Took me about 25 minutes, but worth it! ", he said.

On Friday,  Tim Gordon and Robert Houghton and Greg Stewart trolled off of Rotary Reef and boated two grouper and six seabass.  The waves got rough and the trip was cut short.

Mackerel continues to be caught from one end of Apalachee Bay to the other.  The top mackerel hotspots are the sand bars adjacent to the St. Marks River a mile out from shore.  Utilizing chum will enhance your catch ratio.

ecolbyfletcher61 Carl and Branden Stubbs boated a limit of trout on Saturday.  They fished out from Grey Mare adjacent the rock piles.  They used pearl twitch baits and glow jigs.  The weather was okay until the afternoon and mentioned that the wind was not much of  a factor.  (Colby Fletcher pictured at left.)

There are plenty of reds still in the Wakulla River.  Mark Pottle boated one red and released three, just South of Hwy 98.  This is one pattern that continues to produce in to the Summer.

Don't forget to exercise caution when on the road and on the water.  Observe size and bag limits and check the validity of your fishing license.

Later,

Scott
