Manatees at Wakulla Springs (by Photographer Mike Carlton)
Today, five of us pooled our money to charter the open pontoon boat at Wakulla Springs State Park. The Ranger operating the boat had us out well over an hour so we had plenty of time for photos.
The high point of the trip was near the end as we came over the main spring near the swimming area. We counted nine manatees feeding and playing in the area. One "couple" seemed to be very amorous with each other. The large male also seemed very taken with out boat and "bumped" it more that once. We all were able to get some of our best manatee shots ever.
There were not as many birds to see as there were last year but the manatees more than made up for their absence.
