National Geographic Society Sponsored Dig at Wakulla Springs State Park
Between April 7, 2008 and May 5, 2008 Florida's Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR) will begin a National Geographic Society sponsored dig at Wakulla Springs State Park.
The archaeologists are attempting to establish a human habitation presence that dates to the last Ice Age, or the Paleoindian time. Wakullan Jim Dunbar is in charge of the project. Prior to the start of the dig, geologists used ground penetrating radar to survey a large area of Wakulla Springs near the lodge terrace (see photo).
Visitors to the park will be able to watch and ask questions of the many volunteers who are receiving training from BAR.
