Grand Opening to be Held for Wakulla State Forest Trails
The Florida Division of Forestry is hosting a grand opening for the new Wakulla State Forest Trails on Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will be held at the parking pavilion off of Bloxham Cutoff Road, State Road 267, approximately 2 miles east of the State Rd 61 and State Rd 267 intersection.
Explore a range of different ecosystems and enjoy the stunning views of Wakulla State Forest on the Wakulla State Forest Trail System. This recreation area features one designated Trailwalker and one Trailtrotter trail. The Nemours Hiking Trail Loop is a 1.75 mile trail which traverses through a mixed pine/hardwood forest, pine plantation, early succession wildlife clearing, and a hardwood/cypress slough.
The Double Springs Mulit-Use Trail Loops is 4.5 miles in length. Riders and hikers should expect an amazing trail that will includes low water crossings, inclines, and winding trails.
An informative guided tour of the trails will include tree identification and provide audiences an insight into current management activities on the forest. Information at the pavilion will include tips on how to make your home firewise. A forester and forest rangers will be on hand to answer your forest management questions. This event is free to the public.
