Wakulla Children's Fishing Tournament Scheduled for Saturday, May 15
The Wakulla Children's Fishing Tournament Committee is hoping to build a love for fishing in young people through the annual Wakulla Children's Fishing Tournament on Saturday, May 15.
The tournament organizers are seeking sponsors for the tourney, which is free to children ages three to 15. Organizers are hoping more than 300 boys and girls come to Woolley Park in Panacea to take part in the event.
{sidebar id=1}Every child who enters the tournament will receive a T-shirt and door prizes. There will be a grand prize of four single day tickets to Walt Disney World. The grand prizewinner has until April 2011 to use the tickets.
The names of the sponsors will be included on the back of the T-shirt ($100 sponsorship). Donations may be mailed to Wakulla Children's Fishing Tournament, P.O. Box 349, Panacea, FL 32346, or you can call Ann Cooper at 984-5501 or Peggy Bennett at 926-7227 and they will arrange to pick up the donation. The tournament is a non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible. Any donation amount is welcome and appreciated.
Fishing boats will be provided for children who do not have a way to get to the water. Volunteer boat captains will depart Port Panacea Marina. Parents should meet at the marina at 7 a.m. The last boat will leave the marina at 8:30 a.m. Weigh-in at Woolley Park will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
There will be trophies for the top three fish in each division as well as games, rides and exhibits for children.
The freshwater division includes: bass, pan fish and catfish. The saltwater division includes white trout, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, redfish, flounder and whiting. Fishing tournament registration will be held at the park. Parents who use volunteer boat captains must sign a release before boarding a volunteer boat.
For more information about the tournament, call Tournament Chairman Major Larry Massa at 926-0821.
