Volunteers Needed for Kids Fishing Clinic
The Division of Marine Fisheries Management will host the Panacea Kids' Fishing Clinic in conjunction with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Wakulla County and the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge Association at Wooley Park on May 27th.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with the various stations and tasks at the event. This clinic will be held from 11 am to 2 pm, but we request that our volunteers arrive no later than 9:00 am to assist with set up. We will be glad to have any assistance, even if you may only commit part of your day.
If you will be able to volunteer any of your time for this event, please contact David Moody with the US Fish and Wildlife Service at (850) 925-6121 or the FWC Division of Marine Fisheries Management (DMF) at (850) 488-6058 to confirm and to give us your t-shirt size (for your complimentary volunteer t-shirt). For more information about the event please call DMF (above) or visit http://myfwc.com/marine/fishingclinics/index.html.
We believe the touch tank is one of the most important educational stations at the fishing clinic. It displays different habitats such as seagrass, coral reefs, artificial reefs, oyster beds, mangroves, and more. It will also include the following animals: blue crab, stone crab, horseshoe crab, hermit crabs, crown conchs, and tulip snails. The purpose of the touch tank is to teach the importance of these varied marine habitats for the survival of all of these animals and more. The main point we stress is, "No Habitat, No Fish!" and we try to do this with "hands-on" instruction that makes it fun for the kids.
