Beach Clean-Up at Dog Island Set for Saturday, September 10

Beach Clean Up at Dog Island

Hi friends!

Once again I am calling on your good nature, and will likely call on you additional times in the months ahead to deal with the impacts of Hurricane Dennis on Dog Island.

The debris clean up event scheduled for August 27 was postponed because of danger posed by Hurricane Katrina.  We have rescheduled for Saturday, September 10 (weather permitting).  The Conservancy's island sanctuary, Jeff Lewis Wilderness Preserve, is littered with debris from damaged and destroyed homes.  We would like 20 hardy volunteers to help us out and to join island residents and property owners in this work.  Conditions may be difficult but the work will be satisfying and volunteer effort will count as match to FEMA funds island officials are seeking.  Free boat ride, cold
drinks and lunch for all volunteers.

Volunteers will meet at the ferry dock in Carrabelle at 8:30 a.m. and will be returned to the dock by 5 p.m.  Volunteers must provide their own transportation to Carrabelle.  Complete details including what to bring and a map to the meeting place will be provided to everyone who registers.

To sign up, contact me with your full name, e-mail address and phone number.
