Annual KWCB Coastal Cleanup to be Held Saturday, Sept. 19
This year the International Coastal Cleanup will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Wakulla County. The event, co-sponsored by Keep Wakulla County Beautiful and the Ocean Conservancy, will take place at four different locations within the county.
Site captains will meet their teams beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the following spots:
The St. Marks Yacht Club
The pavilion at Shell Point Beach
Woolley Park in Panacea
Mashes Sands Beach parking lot
FedEx trucks will be present at each location with cold water for the volunteers. The site captains will have trash bags, gloves, data cards, and pencils for all participants. They will also have separate bags for those folks or groups who are participating in the "Weigh Your Butts" program. The persons who pick up the most cigarette butts will receive cash prizes at the after-cleanup party held later in the day.
Volunteers should arrive at the site of their choice between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., and will pick up litter until 10:15 a.m. Please come dressed appropriately; tennis shoes are the footwear of choice. Once the cleanup period is over, all volunteers should head to Woolley Park in Panacea for the after-cleanup festivities, hosted by KWCB, Embarq and Wal-Mart. Each participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a free hot-dog lunch. Each volunteer who comes to Woolley Park will also receive a "Litter Loot" raffle ticket for the chance to win cash for their cleanup efforts from local businesses and individuals.
We hope to see you Saturday! It's your opportunity to be part of the solution, not part of the problem!
