Fishing Report September 11, 2007 |
{sidebar id=1}First of all, scallop season closed Monday the 10th. No more scallops. Let's just hope next year is as good.
Fishing is so, so though one good report I heard was from the Ochlockonee River. Typically you can fish the Ochlockonee up to the old railroad
crossing and catch plenty of bass. Not now. The water is so salty that reds are stacked up there. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and the Gulp are all producing.
I guess if you want freshwater bass you're gonna have to head up farther in the river. Also, the Aucilla River is full of finger mullet and big schools of Tarpon are up there feeding on them. Several have been caught at the boat ramp.
Plenty of reds are being caught at Little and Big Pass and live shrimp or live pinfish will work. The docks along Hwy 98 at Lanark are holding plenty of
reds now and Turkey Point is also good. Live bait or the Gulp fished on a very light lead head should work.
Big Spanish have finally moved back in around Lanark and 4 and 5 pound fish are being caught on Dog Island Reef. Some trout being caught using live pilchards and the Gulp but most trout are small. The area around Gray Mare Rock is producing both trout and reds and the water cooling down is sure gonna help. The flats off Piney Island produced some good catches of trout over the weekend and all it's gonna do over there is get better.
Big schools of cobia have been hanging around the K Tower and lots of gag grouper are being caught in 40 to 60 feet of water. One bait that has really been good is small pilchards. Remember to leave that float plan with someone and no more scalloping. Good luck and good fishing!
