Captain Jody Campbell
Fishing Report

  May 30, 2007

{sidebar id=1}The wind continues to blow out of the east and is keeping a lot of people from heading offshore.  Inshore fishing continues to be good and if you were out there over the past weekend you were probably amazed at the number of boats fishing.  Trout fishing continues to be good with plenty of trout in shallow water and also in 10 to 15 feet of water.  The grass in 10 to 12 feet in front of Gray Mare rock is holding plenty of big trout.  Grubs fishing on the bottom will produce. The area around Piney was slow over the weekend due to the number of boats running around everywhere.  The water is so clear and the fish spook pretty easy.  Good tides this weekend and less people on the water should be better fishing.  Use the Gulp under the Cajun Thunder or use live shrimp.  Turkey Point Shoals continues to be good and the area around DogIsland is good.  Live Pilchards, shrimp or the Gulp will work.

Spanish are still here in good number and the Dog Island Reef, Ochlockonee Shoals and buoy 24 are all good spots.  The goverment stake is also a good spot.  Trolling or fishng live shrimp or Spanish Sardines under a Cajun Thunder will work.  Free lining live shrimp with a 60 to 80 mono leader works well also.  Leave the bail open on your spinning reel so when they hit the shrimp at about 50 miles an hour they won't pull loose.  Let them run for a second and flip the bail and set the hook.

Plenty of reds are being caught around the area and the creeks east of the Lighthouse, Big and Little Pass, Wakulla Beach, Oyster Bay,the docks along the Ochlockonee and at Lanark are all producing.  Top water, live pinfish, live shrimp and gold spoons are all good baits.

Lots of flounder are being caught using mud minnows or live shrimp on the bottom.

Cobia are still around in good numbers and plenty of 20 to 50 pound fish are being hooked or caught.  They can be picky eaters but when they're feeding it doesn't matter what you put in front of them.

Offshore for grouper, snapper, amberjack and kings continues to be good if you can find a day when it's not too rough.

The Wakulla Children's Fishing Tournament is this weekend and they are still looking for volunteers.  The Big Bend Saltwater Classic is Father's Day weekend and will be headquartered at the Carrabelle Boat Club in Carrabelle.

Don't forget to leave that float plan and be careful out there.  Good luck and good fishing!
