Captain Jody Campbell
Fishing Report

  March 14, 2007

Good tides this weekend should make for some good fishing.  Last weekend we had very little water movement and quite a few fish were caught so this should be a great weekend, depending on the weather of course.

Plenty of trout and reds are being caught around the Econfina at the mouth of the creeks and from Palmetto Island to the Aucilla fishing is good for trout and reds along the shore and in very shallow water.  The Cordele Rattlin Redfin and Zara Spook have been producing lots of fish in that shallow water.  You might look for trout out a little deeper also though the real big ones  will still be hanging close in.

The mouth of East River is holding lots of trout and Deep Creek continues to produce trout and reds up near the breach in the dike.  If you don't have a boat, wading in front of the Lighthouse can be real good and there were quite a few blues caught there last weekend.  Quite a few reds are being caught around Spring Creek and the trout are just starting to move out onto the flats.  They'll take grubs but the bigger trout seem to want live shrimp.

Plenty of pinfish are out there also so take plenty of bait.  Plenty of trout are still in the creeks and around the oyster bars.  Redfishing should be good around the docks in the Ochlockonee River and trout should be moving out around the Oyster Bars.  Look for trout to move out onto the flats around Lanark this weekend and live shrimp or grubs under the Cajun Thunder are gonna work.  Look for the reds around the docks along 98 and throw live shrimp or live pinfish to them.

Lots of Spanish have been seen but not caught and plenty of blues are being seen and caught.  Small spoons or jigs cast into the schools should produce fish.  Grouper season reopens in Federal waters on the 15th of March so you can start going out to those deeper holes.  Plenty of fish are bieng caught trolling in 25 to 40 feet of water with the Stretch baits by Mann's.  A king was even caught off Carrabelle this past weekend.

The time a lot of us have been waiting for is finally here so you better make sure that equipment is in good shape.  There are gonna be
lots of folks on the water which means boat ramps will start getting crowded.  Get there early to beat the crowds or just be patient.

Don't forget that float plan and be careful out there.  Good luck and good fishing!
