Fishing Report

{sidebar id=1}Whenever I give a fishing report, whether here or in the paper I try to print the truth. If the fish aren't biting, they just aren't biting. I may not always say exactly where they are biting but I get you pretty close. I just read an article from a guide in South Florida and if he was telling the truth, that's where we need to be fishing. Three limits of trout in 30 minutes and threw back fish between 27 and 32 inches long. For August that is some fantastic fishing.
At any rate I don't think you're gonna do that around here. The water is awfully hot and the fish are gonna be shallow early and late and move deep by the middle of the day. Top water plugs early, the Gulp under a Cajun Thunder and live shrimp are gonna produce.
We do have good tides all weekend but with it being Labor Day it's also gonna get crowded out there, especially around St. Marks with all the scallops. The weather forecast looks good also with chances of rain in the afternoon so watch for that building late. The area around Stoney Bayou has been producing lots of trout and reds. The Big Pass west of St. Marks Rive has also been holding reds. Use live pinfish on the bottom.
Reds are starting to school around the oyster bars in Oyster Bay and look for trout, blues and ladyfish out on the Shell Point Reef or T Bar as it is called. The oyster bars out at the mouth of the Ochlockonee should be holding trout, reds, sheepshead and flounder. Look for trout on the Clam Bar also.
Mike Hopkins said nobody is fishing but one boat that went yesterday caught a lot of trout on the East end of Lanark Reef and over around Turkey Point Shoals. Offshore fishing should be pretty good for grouper and red snapper and I am hearing a few cobia still being caught. Plenty of scallops are still around St. Marks but be careful down there cause there's gonna be a lot of people with the long weekend.
Be careful out there and leave that float plan with someone. If you're gonna be on the road watch out for the other person. Good luck and good fishing! Oh yea, GO NOLES!!!!!
