Captain Jody Campbell
Fishing Report

September 21, 2007

It doesn't look like Saturday is gonna be a very good day for fishing but they were calling for Sunday to get better.  The tide right now is about 2 1/2 feet above normal and wind howling pretty good.  The tides are gonna start getting better on Sunday and next week fishing should be good.

A lot of people in Scott's tournament last week fished between the St. Marks and Econfina but the winning fish came from out of Mashes Sands.  The area around Gray Mare produced quite a few fish in shallow and out deeper.  Look for reds along the shoreline and in the Rock Garden.  Stoney Bayou should be holding reds and Little and Big Pass west of the Lighthouse should be holding reds.  Live shrimp or live pinfish should work.

The area around Live Oak Island and Patty's Island should be getting real good for trout and look for trout and reds in the creeks around Wakulla  Beach.  The area around Shell Point and Oyster Bay is starting to produce good catches of trout both in the bars and on the flats.  The area around Piney Island produced quite a few trout using the white Gulp under the Cajun Thunder.  Live shrimp are now available and I fished a couple of hours on Wednesday and caught about 35 trout as fast as I could cast.  They took the shrimp as soon as it hit the water but were a little slower to take the
Gulp.   I was fishing the last part of the falling tide and they even bit on the slack tide but the wind was blowing enough to keep the water moving a little.

Shrimp are starting to be caught in cast nets at Alligator Point Beach so the trout fishing around the mouth of the Ochlockonee should be real good now.  Look for trout on the Clam Bar and reds around the docks.  Turkey Point Shoals continues to be good for trout and south of the Lanark Reef is good.  The Gulp, live pilchards and live shrimp will work.  Look for reds in the same area and also around the docks along 98.  Some Spanish are being caught around Dog Island Reef and as the water cools and the Spanish start their trek south, that fishing should get better.

Offshore fishing is good for grouper in 80 feet of water and deeper and a few cobia continue to be caught.  C Quarters in Carrabelle is having their 5th annual Kingfish Shootout the last weekend of this month and hopefully the weather will be good and fishing even better.  Remember to leave that float plan with someone and be careful out there.  Good luck and good fishing!
