Captain Jody Campbell Fishing Report
October 24, 2007
It looks like the beginning of a good fall. Plenty of trout, reds and flounder inshore and grouper, kings and cobia being caught offshore. The area around the Aucilla is produicig nice catches of trout and reds. Fish close to shore on the high tide and look for trout in the rock grass off the mouth of the Aucilla.
The area around the Rock Garden is producing plenty of trout and reds and reds are being caught up as far as Newport on the St. Marks and to the Olin Dock in the Wakulla. Big and Little Pass are producing plenty of reds and there are also plenty of big sharks in Little Pass. Great kayak fishing now around Wakulla Beach with some nice reds and trout in around the oysters bars in all of those creeks there.
Oyster Bay is producing plenty of trout and reds around the bars and the flats around Piney continue to hold trout looking for live shrimp or the Gulp. Look for silver trout in the deep hole at the mouth of the Panacea Channel and at the end of the old Tradewinds Dock. Reds are being caught up the Ochlockonee as far as the bridge above the State Park and lots of flounder are also being caught up there. Big black drum should be holding around the bridge at Ochlockonee Bay and crabs are probably the best bait.
Lanark Reef is produicing plenty of reds and gold spoons and live bait are the best baits. Look for trout on the flats to be holding around the sandy pockets about 200 yards offshore from the new Condo's on 98. TUrkey Point shoals is also pretty good. Grouper are being caught offshore trolling the Mann's Stretch baits and chartreuse seems to be a hot color right now.
Troll the rocks off St. Marks and any of the inshore numbers you have. Plenty of grouper are also being caught in 65 to 80 feet of water using LY's and live bait and kings and cobia continue to be caught. Not many Spanish reported but find the bait right now and you'll find Spanish.
Good luck and good fishing!
