Captain Jody Campbell
Fishing Report

November 15, 2007

Before I start with the inshore fishing which I normally do because that's what I do, let me tell you about the grouper fishing.  In one word,  FANTASTIC.  The water temperatures have cooled down and with the high salt salinity, grouper have moved into as close as 18 feet of water and 25 to 35 seems to be the magic numbers.  Trolling Rapala Jawbreakers or the Mann's Stretch Stretch 25 or 30 is going to work and live pinfish if you can still find some or dead bait is gonna work.  People are saying it is the best they have seen in years and most of their spots are covered up with grouper and most are big gags.

Inshore is excellent for reds and plenty of trout are being caught but most are just under the limit.  Reds are in the creeks and along the grass East of the St. Marks River, Little Pass and Big Pass are very good, Goose Creek is producing and reds are being caught up the St. Marks and Wakulla Rivers.  Live shrimp, mud minnows, gold spoons, top water baits and the Gulp are all working.

Oyster Bay is holding plenty of reds, the docks along the Ochlockonee are good places and plenty of reds are being caught up the Ochlockoonee as far as the old railroad trussel up past the state park.  Lanark continues to be produicng lots of reds along the Lanark Reef and behind Dog Island.  Look for some big reds in the cut at St. George.

Trout are still on the flats in good numbers but a lot of them are small.  Look for five feet of water and fish the Gulp under a Cajun Thunder.  Good catches are coming from the Econfina and Aucilla and in Oyster Bay.  East River is also a good spot to try.  All of the creeks are starting to hold trout and this weekend cold will probably push more into them.

The bay at Lanark is producing plenty of fish and the Gulp and live shrimp are the ticket.  Spanish have disappeared but sheepshead and flounder are being caught on the bottom using shrimp, minnows or fiddlers.

If you have any silver (white) trout holes they are probably holding fish now.  I heard of some real big fish coming from the mouth of the Ochlockonee.  They hit the gulp, shrimp or cut bait on the bottom and fight twice as hard as a speckled trout.

Remember to leave that float plan and be careful out there.  We'll miss you Chuck.  Good luck and good fishing!
