{sidebar id=1}First of all, it's too dang hot to go fishing but if you are like me you're gonna go anyway. In fact I went Wednesday from 9:30 till 12:30 and believe me it was a scorcher out there. I did catch a bunch of trout, including 5 that would have been legal and about 12 others including a big Spanish. All were caught on the Cajun Thunder and white Gulp. The tide was high and falling and there was bait everywhere. Cast into the bait and you got a good strike or caught something. This was all near Piney Island in 3 to 5 feet of water.
Plenty of trout are being caught around Wakulla Beach and some nice reds. Look for trout and reds in Little Pass and also Stoney Bayou. Gold spoons and top water plugs have been producing. The Rock Garden has produced some nice reds the past week on spoons and top water baits. Quite a few trout and reds were also caught around the Aucilla on the Gulp and top water baits early. The chrome and bone She Dog has been a good producer. The chrome and black Skitter Walk has also been good.
Dog Island Reef is holding plenty of trut but you've got to get past the ladyfish and blues to catch them. Look for the spotted bottom. Turkey Point Shoals has also been pretty good and the Gulf side of the Lanark Reef. The Gulp and also live pilchards are working. Plenty of Spanish around but scattered and a few pompano still being caught.
Offshore fishing is hit or miss. Plenty of red grouper and red snapper being caught but people are having a hard time finding gags. Cobia and kings are also still being caught, mostly by folks fishing on the bottom for grouper.
callops are still plentiful around Black Rock and Gray Mare Rock and some folks say they are just as thick or thicker than they were the first weekend. There are lots of jellyfish or portugese man of war in the water around Shell Point so I imagine there are some down there so be careful. That could really ruin your day or the people with you.
Good luck and good fishing!
