DEP Encourages Innovative Ideas to Increase Recycling
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host its fourth and final public meeting on November 5 in Tallahassee to receive input on innovative ways the state can recycle more. Many Floridians, businesses and organizations in the recycling community have already provided useful suggestions and thoughtful comments at three previous public meetings and via DEP’s Web forum and e-mails.
The Energy, Climate Change, and Economic Security Act of 2008 established a new statewide recycling goal of 75 percent to be achieved by 2020. DEP is charged with developing a comprehensive program to achieve this goal and submit it to the Legislature for consideration by January 1, 2010. Public input is critical to the success in achieving this ambitious goal and any new and innovative approaches that address solid waste streams are welcome.
The agenda for the November 5 public meeting is available for review on our Web site by visiting www.dep.state.fl.us/waste/recyclinggoal75/. A draft report with DEP’s preliminary recommendations for achieving the recycling goal was posted to our Web site in July 2009 and is still under development. Public comment may be made at the meeting, via a Web forum on this Web site or by e-mailing DEP at
