Whooping Cranes Arrive Safely in St. Marks
Ten Whooping Cranes arrived at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday, January 13, representing the second class to spend their winter at the Refuge.
Several hundred people were in place on a chilly morning to watch the Whoopers led by an ultralight plane fly over on their way to a special holding pen which will be their home until they return to Wisconsin on their own.
The reintroduction of Whooping Cranes, an endangered species, is a major project of Operation Migration, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving these amazing birds.
