Wakulla County Proudly Completes Another Road Paving Project

three-sisters-road-paving-projectCrawfordville, Florida – The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners has completed another road paving project. Three Sisters Road is approximately ¼ mile and connects to Ivan Church Road.

Three Sisters Road is a road project that has been in the works for a while.  Lack of right of way and the need for stormwater permits suspended the projects progress for some time.  The Public Works Department worked to acquire the permit exemptions and right a way which resulted in the completion of this project.

Paving this road is anticipated to greatly reduce dust and sediment carryover to a nearby wetland, which currently receives stormwater runoff from the existing roadbed.  In addition, paving creates a more comfortable travel for residents on the road and reduces the wear on vehicles commonly associated with dirt roads.  “Even though Wakulla County has miles of unpaved roads, our Board, staff, and Public Works Department work continuously searching for the needed resources to improve roads that are not yet paved or paving those roads that we can.  These improvements will provide for better travel for our citizens," commented Commissioner Green.  Funding for this paving project was funded through the one cent sales tax.  The County’s next road project to take place is Old Shell Point Road which was also included in the FY2009/2010 Capital Improvement Plan for road paving projects.
