Wakulla County Events will be Held to Recognize Veterans
{sidebar id=3}Several events have been planned in Wakulla County to recognize and remember area military veterans in honor of Veteran's Day 2007. The Wakulla High School band and ROTC, Wakulla Middle School, Medart Elementary School, and Wakulla Christian School will all hold separate celebrations.
Wakulla Middle School; November 9, 2007
Wakulla Middle School will hold their annual Veteran's Day Program on Friday morning, November 9, 2007 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Guest speakers will include Lt. Colonel John J. DeVillez, Professor of Military Science F.S.U.; Col. W.Earl Daniell, (Retired) Department of Veteran's Affairs Communication Director; and Capt. R. Huddleston, NJROTC Wakulla High School.
The NJROTC Honor Guard will be performing, along with the Color Guard, WMS Band, and WMS Chorus. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will also announce the winner of the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest.
The event is open to all parents and local veterans.
Medart Elementary School; November 9, 2007
Medart Elementary School will hold their annual "American Pride Day" on Friday, November 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Kindergarteners and 3rd grade students will sing several patriotic songs, and all veterans and currently serving members of the military present at the event will be recognized by name, branch of service, and number of years served. Past Medart Principal Randy Anderson and School Board Chairman Jerry Evans will also perform.
This celebration is open to all members of the community, and all veterans and currently serving members of the military are invited as well.
Wakulla High School and Madison County Marching Bands and Wakulla High ROTC Color Guard; November 9, 2007
The joint marching bands of Madison County and Wakulla High Schools and the Wakulla High School ROTC Color Guard would like to invite any veterans of the United States military or any enlisted personnel currently serving in the United States military to be our guest during halftime of the Wakulla vs. Madison football game on November 9, 2007 at Reynolds Field in Medart. The bands will conclude with a patriotic tribute and the ROTC Color Guard will lead all those involved onto the field to be honored during this time.
If you are interested in participating, please call 926-7125 ext. 282 and leave your name so we know how many to expect. The game begins at 7:30 and we will meet at the far end zone midway through the 2nd quarter on the evening of the game. Please feel free to wear a military uniform (dress or combat) or any regalia, awards, etc. that you choose. Any veterans or military personnel in uniform will not be charged admission into the game.
Wakulla Christian School; November 10, 2007
Wakulla County's first annual Veterans Day Parade and Celebration in Hudson Park. This grand event will be held on Saturday, November 10th, beginning with a patriotic parade in Crawfordville, followed by a day of celebrating in support of our troops and honoring our Veterans. There will be rides and games for the kids, tons of food, a flag raising ceremony, and a God and Country Concert throughout the afternoon. Proceeds will benefit the Veterans and the new Wakulla Christian School classroom building.
