WCSO Drug Take Back Day a Success
Written by Keith Blackmar, Public Information Officer, WCSO Tuesday, 01 May 2012 10:15
Three Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement officers took part in Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 28, 2012 in Crawfordville, Panacea and Wakulla Station.
Lt. Brent Sanders manned a collection site in Panacea while Sgt. Danny Harrell was in Wakulla Station and Lt. Sherrell Morrison was at the Wakulla County Health Department. During the four hour collection period, the three law enforcement officers collected 25.5 pounds of unwanted medications. The collecting of the medications for proper disposal will keep the pills from falling into the wrong hands or harming the environment.
The collections from April 28 were added to collections from past Drug Take Back events and collections from the collection receptacle in the lobby of the sheriff’s office for a total of 76.5 pounds. The pills were turned over to an official from the Drug Enforcement Agency for proper destruction.
While the Drug Take Back event is held several times a year in Crawfordville, Wakulla Station and Panacea, unwanted medications may be disposed of 24 hours a day and seven days per week in the secure disposal bin in the sheriff’s office lobby.
