VolunteerWAKULLA Will Host The 1st Annual Make a Difference Day

VolunteerWAKULLA will be hosting the 1st Annual “Make a Difference Day” on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Park featuring simultaneous community service events (Park Improvement, Library Landscape, Growing Food for the Needy, and more). Each volunteer will be able to select a location or go directly to the volunteer site of their organization. At 12:30 p.m. the volunteers are asked to return to Hudson Park to enjoy lunch and a celebration for joining VolunteerWAKULLA to help make a difference.

Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors; everyone can participate. County Administrator Benjamin Pingree expressed his support and stated, “VolunteerWAKULLA is another example of a broad-based and grass roots public service initiative that the Board supports to improve our shared community."

VolunteerWAKULLA was established to connect community group needs with volunteers’ interests. The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is exceptionally supportive of the increased volunteering activities in the County. Every day, millions of Americans volunteer, using their time, talents and compassion to make a difference in the lives of others. Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service to others.

You might be asking yourself, "What is a Volunteer Center and what does it mean to me other than just on Make a Difference Day?"

VolunteerWakulla.org will connect you to local service opportunities in Wakulla County. VolunteerWAKULLA and the associated website will be assisted with the professional support of VolunteerLeon; Volunteer Florida; Points of Light Foundation; Hands On Network; and others. As a Volunteer Center member you use these services to recruit volunteers to help with needs you have identified through your church, service club, or business. By signing up on-line you can broadcast your solutions or community events and "call-out" to motivated workers for assistance.
