St. Marks Wildlife Refuge Volunteers Recognized
The annual St. Marks Refuge Association Volunteer Appreciation Day was held Saturday, April 3, 2010, a beautiful sunny day at the Giles-Thompson House on the Refuge.
Prior to the luncheon about 20 members went on a hike to the old sawdust pile, remnant of earlier days when temporary sawmills were set up to harvest timber. The three mile hike through different ecosystems was led by Joe White.
The luncheon was highlighted by a low country boil prepared by ranger David Moody. Members brought salads and desserts to round out the feast.
Awards and gifts of appreciation were presented to volunteers for their hours and service in support of the refuge and it's programs.
