New Recycle Center Opens at Wakulla County Landfill
Keep Wakulla County Beautiful, Inc. (KWCB) of Wakulla County held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 25, 2008 to herald the opening of the new and improved recycling center at the Wakulla County Landfill. Executive Director of KWCB Marj Law, KWCB President Don Henderson, Vice President Jo Anne Strickland, and Treasurer Doug Jones were on hand to celebrate the event, as well as Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce members and other interested community members.
The recycling center is located at the very front of the landfill, and now features brightly colored signs that let residents know what types of materials are allowed to be recycled here in Wakulla County. "We wanted to improve the recycling process here in Wakulla County, and we felt that clearer signage was a necessity," said Law. "We've also added some natural beautification to the area by planting roses at the entrance, and have tried to make the recycling experience a more convenient one for community members. We hope this will entice more Wakulla County residents to recycle."
According to the new signs, which sport the KWCB turtle image, the following materials can be recycled in Wakulla County:
Plastic
Newspaper
Phone books
Shredded paper
Metal cans
Aluminum cans
Cardboard
Glass bottles (any color)
Plastic bags can not be recycled.
"We hope the community will come out and see the new recycling center, and be inspired to 'act locally and think globally' by recycling," concluded Law.
