CURRENT SITUATION:

At around 1040 EDT, a platform fire broke out on Vermillion 380 (owned by Mariner Energy) due to unknown causes around 214 miles SE of Houston and 80 miles south of Vermillion Bay, LA.  It has been reported that 13 individuals were on the platform and several news outlets have reported that they have been rescued from the water and are safely aboard a commercial vessel.  One individual is reported as being injured and there have been no reports of fatalities.  News sources are reporting that one Coast Guard helicopter is currently on scene and two Coast Guard Cutters are en route.  The Coast Guard is reporting that the facility is a fixed platform and not a floating rig (like MC 252).  The National Operation Center is now stating that it may have been in production.

STATE ACTIONS:

The State Emergency Response Team is currently at a Level 3 with Operations and Plans staff monitoring the situation and providing updates as needed.
