Wakulla County Sheriff Donnie Crum recognized Ashley Renee Methvin with a Special Recognition Award Friday, May 25, 2012.
Methvin, who is about to graduate from nursing school, was traveling on Crawfordville Highway near Trice Lane on Tuesday, April 17 when she stopped her vehicle and administered assistance to two individuals who were injured in a traffic crash while riding a moped without a helmet.
The moped riders became involved in a traffic crash with another vehicle and Methvin’s action resulted in a positive outcome for the two teenagers.
Methvin said she was riding with her young child when the accident occurred in front of her. She said she gave her son pizza to keep him occupied while she determined how she could help the teenagers. “I would never ride a moped without a helmet,” she said. “I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to administer my first CPR on a teenager. My son got his pizza a little early.”
“We appreciate you taking the time to render assistance on the scene,” said Sheriff Crum. “Thanks to your actions and others at the scene there was a positive outcome.”
Methvin was joined at the award presentation by her mother and aunt, Virginia Carter and Frances Trumbull. Lt. Billy Jones also took part in the recognition event.
