2008 Opening Ceremony for Youth Baseball/Softball Season to be Held

equipment 125.gifThe Wakulla County Parks & Recreation Department is holding an opening ceremony for the start of the 2008 youth baseball/softball season.  The opening ceremony will be held on March 8, 2008 commencing at 9:00am with the honoring of Nancy Commander and family, and former Recreation Director Larry Bruce for their contributions towards the youth baseball program and the Medart Recreation Park.

{sidebar id=1}The “First Pitch” will be thrown at 9:30a.m. by County Administrator Benjamin Pingree and the season will be officially underway.  The Cal Ripkin League will use this day as a fundraising event to help support the baseball program.  Chicken dinners will be sold for $5.00 to help benefit the program.  The Wakulla County Parks & Recreation Board will also be selling hamburgers and hotdogs to raise money for the Medart Park Improvements. 

In addition, Babe Ruth Commissioner Noreen Britt will be hosting the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition. This event measures player’s abilities in three categories:  hitting, running and throwing.  The competition is open to all children between the ages of 7 and 14.  Age determining date is July 17, 2008.  Winners will advance to the regional event and possibly the national event.  This event will be held from 10:00a.m. to 12:00 noon on Field #3 at the Medart Recreation Park.
