Charles Prout Announces Candidacy for Supervisor of Elections
Charles D. Prout, 65, of Crawfordville was the first of what turned out to be many political candidates lining up for a chance to succeed the retiring Wakulla County Supervisor of Elections, Sherida Crum. Prout is seeking the post as a Republican.
Prout has lived in Florida since 1959 and is an Air Force veteran, father of three boys and has four grandchildren. He and his wife, Patricia, along with their rescued Border Collie Ella, are recent additions to Crawfordville, having moved to the community four years ago.
Prout has been active in elections since the days of Governor Hayden Burns. He has been involved in all phases of the election process including being a candidate for Congress in Hillsborough County in 1990 and a candidate for Hillsborough County Commissioner in 1992. He was elected as Republican Committeeman and served in Valrico. In addition, he has worked on several campaigns including President George W. Bush, Governor Claude Kirk, Governor Jeb Bush, Hillsborough Sheriff David Gee and Congressman Adam Putnam.
During his election work, he was involved in all phases of the election process including campaigning, organizing rallies at stadiums, serving as an elected committeeman, helping with mail-outs, ballot counting and working as a volunteer at polling houses. He worked with the Supervisor of Elections in Hillsborough County where he handled the repair and disposal of old electronic balloting machines.
"I have a full understanding of the election process and how it works," Prout stated. "Our supervisor of elections has done an outstanding job and I would like to continue the good work she has completed."
Prout and his wife own Charles Prout and Associates, an advertising and marketing company. They recently produced a Wakulla County map in conjunction with the Wakulla County Chamber of Commere. The product was funded by advertisements and there was no cost to the citizens of Wakulla County.
Prout has founded several companies incuding a business that invented on-board aircraft cartridge movies and Prout Film Productions which produced and directed more than 200 films and commercials for clients. In addition, Panda Travel and Tours operated tours worldwide through a number of travel agencies. He developed a computer laser disc which was used by stores as an interactive system for customer use. It was sold to Eastman Kodak.
"I want to continue the fine work of Supervisor of Elections Sherida Crum," Prout said. "I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce and an honorary deputy sheriff."
