Condolences Extended to Family of Aubrey Lawhon
Good afternoon,
It is with tremendous sadness that I write to confirm that Wakulla County lost one of its finest and most dedicated employees this morning with the passing of Mr. Aubrey William Lawhon, Assistant Supervisor of Roads and Bridges within our Public Works Department (ESG). His passing corresponded to an on-the-job accident that is being investigated by local and state law enforcement, and federal OSHA investigators through the weekend. In addition, Wakulla County staff and our public works’ contract provider, ESG, are now on-site with specialty safety teams from across the country to identify how such a tragedy occurred this morning and we stand committed to identifying measures to protect against such an accident in the future.
A Public Works employee for over 27 years, Mr. Lawhon’s dedication to the citizens and greater “family” of this community were widely known. He was also owner of a long standing road grading company in his spare time. To his friends at Public Works he was a man of tremendous character and dignity. It is truly difficult to comprehend such a tragic loss…
On behalf of the entire Board of County Commissioners, the entire staff of Wakulla County and the citizens of this great county, I extend my sincere condolences to his wife, Shirley Lawhon, to his children and the entire Lawhon family. While funeral arrangements are still being made by the family, we will stand together in sympathy to express our sorrow at his untimely passing and to celebrate his wonderful life.
I would also like to extend gratitude to all of the individuals who attended to Mr. Lawhon at the time of and immediately after his accident, including Wakulla County EMS, Wakulla County Fire, Public Works staff and members of local law enforcement.
Please join me in extending our prayers for Mr. Lawhon and his family.
Sincerely,
Ben Pingree
Wakulla County Administrator
