Sopchoppy 4th of July Parade and Celebration will be Held

The annual Sopchoppy 4th of July Celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, with a few scheduling changes.  According to event organizers, the parade will be held at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Sopchoppy, and the Sopchoppy City Park festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m.  

Lineup for this year's parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until about 10:30 a.m.  There will be prizes awarded for different categories, including Most Patriotic Entry, Best Decorated/Dressed Child, Best All-Around Float, Best Impersonation of a Political Figure, Most Earth-Friendly Entry, and Best Dressed Animal.  Please contact Debbie Dix-Martin at (850)528-5838 by Saturday, June 30 if you are interested in particpating in the parade, or for more information.

fireworks 100 Backwoods Bistro will be serving breakfast (breakfast pizza, breakfast burritos, etc.) beginning at 9:30 a.m., and the Book and Art Tearoom will be serving scones, crumpets, teas and coffee, also at 9:30 a.m.  The Sopchoppy Grocery will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch, as well.  Vendors will also be able to set up in downtown Sopchoppy from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at no charge.  Please call Debbie Dix-Martin at (850)528-5838 if you are interested in having a booth, or for more information.  

The Myron B. Hodge Sopchoppy City Park will open its gates at 5:00 p.m. for the start of the evening festivities.  Donations of $1.00 per person will be accepted at the gate, and event organizers ask that no coolers or alcohol be brought into the park. 

Food vendors will be selling meals and treats throughout the afternoon and evening, including hamburgers and hotdogs by the Sopchoppy Lions Club, seafood by the Fisherman's Association, funnel cakes, hand-dipped corn dogs, and chicken fingers by Cassie Hartsfield, and Florida Snow Cones by Kiona Hill.  There will also be cotton candy and lemonade for the kiddies (and kids at heart!)

The schedule of evening events is as follows:

5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.    Opening Ceremonies
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  The Tallahassee Fiddlers
6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
  High Mileage Band
8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.   Wayne's World
9:30 p.m.
  World Famous Fireworks Display!

Backwoods Bistro will also be open all day not only for breakfast but also lunch and dinner.
