The 31st Annual Panacea Blue Crab FestivalSaturday, May 7th, marks the 31st Annual Blue Crab Festival in Panacea, Florida. “Get
the Blues in Panacea” - A smorgasbord of hometown family fun for
thousands of locals, exlocals, wannabe locals and visitors who share
our passion for blue crabs and seafood!
“The Blue Crab
Festival just keeps on getting better and better,” exclaims Festival
Co-Chair Kathi Brown. “We’re kicking off at 10:00 AM with a parade on
Coastal Highway 98 and closing with the bang of traditional nighttime
fireworks over scenic Dickerson Bay."
 Blue Crab Festival Parade Judges
The
long running successful seafood festival is proud to announce that this
year they will be presenting a “NASHVILLE SONGWRITER SHOW” as the main
entertainment. “Four great songwriter/artists who’ve inspired
contemporary country/blues/folk music from the 70’s on will join
Wakulla County’s local talent,” said Linda Hargrove.
“Also on
our entertainment line-up is the ever-popular “Mountain Dew Cloggers,”
who will bring their kids’ team, the “Dewdrops,” remarked Jo DeHaven.
“Clogging is a truly American dance form that began in the Appalachian
Mountains and now enjoys widespread popularity throughout the United
States and around the world. The Cloggers were a big hit last year.”
The "Mountain Dew Cloggers" at the 2004 Blue Crab Festival
Clogging
is less impromptu and more complicated than the simple rhythmic dance
begun by our ancestors. New influences - tap dancing, Canadian Step
Dancing, and even street dancing and hip-hop inspire today’s steps and
dances. Throw in the Mullet Toss and the Crab Picking Contest and a
hefty dose of brilliant fireworks, and you have a complete cure-all for
the blues.
