WORKFORCE plus Now Offering Free Computer Skills Training

unemployment_office-150TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Wakulla’s May unemployment rate is 7.0%, with no change from April.

However, a bird’s eye view of the situation is more telling, as this rate is 1.3 percentage points lower than it was one year ago and has been in consistent decline since the 9.1% rate of June 2011.

Wakulla’s unemployment is lower than that of both Florida, at 8.5%, and the nation, whose unemployment is 7.9%.  These numbers are seasonally unadjusted, meaning that annual fluctuations in industry employment, such as summer break for the education sector, are not taken into account.

“We can continue to overcome unemployment obstacles by providing training, education, and career experience opportunities,” Kimberly A. Moore, CEO of WORKFORCE plus said.  “Training Academy is one of those experiences where individuals can enhance their job-ready skills and increase their value in the workplace.”

The WORKFORCE plus Training Academy offers computer courses in an intimate setting that allows participants to gain new technology skills.  Courses are available in a beginner and an intermediate level for Microsoft Office’s most popular programs, including Word, Excel and Power Point.  For the fundamental-level student, a Basic Computer Skills class is available as well.

In Wakulla, each class is four hours long and is split into two-hour segments that take place on Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Different subjects are offered each week, so course offerings change frequently.  All classes are free and listed online, but seating is limited so participants must register beforehand at www.wfplus.org.

For more information about the Training Academy or other exciting training opportunities available through WORKFORCE plus, go to www.wfplus.org or call 1-866-WFP-JOB1. Programs funded through WORKFORCE plus are equal opportunity programs with auxiliary aids and services available upon request to individuals with disabilities.  Persons using TTY/TTD equipment use Florida Relay Service 711.
