Small Business Recovery Grants Available

WORKFORCE plus announces the availability of Florida Small Business Recovery Grants that will provide up to $5,000 to small businesses that are  unable to maintain operation and keep their workers employed due to a natural disaster.  The funds are designed to meet immediate costs for which  business insurance and loans are not available.  The funds are also designed to support the long-term recovery and continuity of businesses through targeted business development training.

To be eligible, a business must:

• Have 25 or fewer employees

• Be located in or adjacent to a county declared eligible for both public and individual assistance

• Have been in existence at least 12 months prior to the natural disaster

• Have an established unemployment compensation account

• Have one or more employees unable to work as a result of Tropical Storm Fay

Business requirements:

Businesses approved for a small business grant must agree to participate in entrepreneurial training intended to help sustain and grow operations. Businesses must also develop and submit a business recovery plan that details proposed costs and how grant funding will be coordinated with other emergency assistance.

Allowable costs include:

• Deductible/Co-payment for insurance related to the disaster

• Replacement and repair of items needed to reopen a business such as carpeting, fencing, windows, etc.

• Replacement of damaged business equipment such as a computer or telephone network required to reopen

• Cost of training designed to help develop a business recovery and business continuity plan
