Posh!  An Eclectic Shopping Experience!

“Helping You to Help Yourself While Helping Others”

posh building 250.gif“Posh,” according to one definition, means “smart, stylish, fashionable, elegant and classy!” But, in addition to this definition, the shop named “Posh,” located at 114 Municipal Ave., in Sopchoppy, is also committed to empowering both producer and consumer alike, in an ethical, and conscious manner.

Owner Debra E. Dix, a licensed massage therapist who also holds a master’s degree in social work from Florida State University, wanted to open a retail store which offered unique and original products and gifts that were either Fair Trade certified, or locally crafted. Fair Trade certification ensures that a product is made in an ethical and conscious way, where workers are being paid a fair living wage, and a focus is being placed on sustainable practices. In other words, there are no “sweatshops” involved in the Fair Trade industry. Additionally, Dix wanted to offer a place where local artisans and musicians, could display and sell their work to the community, and those who were just passing through.

Open in December of 2007, “Posh,” now offers unique and original products at a price you can afford! Additionally, “Posh” works with people locally and Globally to promote handcrafted items, of high quality, to allow you to purchase in a conscious and sustainable manner. “Posh” allows layaway to customers, along with pre-purchases for some handcrafted items.

Every  purchase from “Posh” is a purchase in the “right direction” toward sustainability and a promotion for purchasing both locally and Fair Trade.”  In addition, “Posh” tries to purchase “clean” products that will not end up harming people or the environment. “In a challenging economy, we all need to be helping each other,” said Dix. “And with an increasing need to become aware of how the toxins we consume and dispose of in landfills impact our lives and our environment, it is important to become educated step-by-step, on how we all can do a better job at supporting practices that benefit our health and welfare.”
