Opportunity to Serve on Selective Service Board Available to Qualified Person
Hello,
I have an opportunity to recommend someone for what could be a very important position (hopefully they will never have to perform the job I would recommend). If you are interested in serving on the Selective Service Board, please let me know. Please read the attached email to determine if you have the qualifications (or maybe as important, are not disqualified).
Thank you for allowing me to serve.

{sidebar id=1}Subject: Selective Service--Presidential Appointment recommendation
Dear Wakulla County Commissioners,
As an Area Officer for the Selective Service System, I am searching for qualified applicants to serve on local Selective Service boards. Serving as a Selective Service Board Member is a presidential appointment, and, therefore, your recommendation of a qualified applicant is important. We seek individuals who are civically minded and of sound judgment to fill these positions.
Currently, the Selective Service System registers young men for service but does not actively draft them. The local boards are in a training mode only. We do not foresee a change in this in the near future. However, we must remain prepared and need trained local boards to insure our readiness.
At present, Wakulla County has one vacant board member position. Only a few restrictions apply: the applicants cannot be retired or active members of the military or hold a law enforcement occupation. If appointed as a Selective Service Board Member, the person would be asked to attend a single weekend training session. Annually thereafter, board members complete a self-study continuation training. These are the basic requirements during peacetime.
Your time in recommending someone for this presidential appointment is greatly appreciated. You may wish to visit our web site at www.sss.gov for more general information.
