Concert and Benefit will Raise Oil Spill Awareness in Wakulla County

Dear Editor,

I live in Wakulla County. Like so many Floridians, I am deeply saddened by the ongoing environmental disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico due to the “oil spill”.

I have asked Posey's Dockside Cafe in Panacea to host a Gulf Aid Awareness Benefit party at their establishment on Dickerson Bay on Thursday July 1st from 7 to 10 pm. Local groups such as the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab and the Florida Wildlife Mammal Association, among others, have been asked to come and set up information tables to raise awareness about the local coastal impact and to help us learn what we all can do to help battle the long term effects of the oil disaster.  The event will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to connect with local aid efforts and to offer support, either as volunteers or as potential aid donors.

Local band Hot Tamale will be providing live music, including the performance debut of the new song “Crystal Gulf Waters” written by singer-songwriter Craig Reeder and Tallahassee children’s author Adrien Fogelin.

The Gulf Aid Awareness Party will be a family-friendly event, free of charge; from 7 to 10 pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Posey's Dockside Cafe menu features an array of local grilled, steamed, and fried seafood as well as sandwiches and burgers. There will be margarita specials! Posey's Dockside Cafe is located at 99 Rock Landing Road in Panacea, right next to the Panacea Harbor Marina. It is also possible to reach the cafe by boat and people are welcome to sail or motor in and tie up at the dock.

I hope you will join us July 1st on the coast!

Rachel Sutz Pienta
