A Layman's Understanding of U.S. Politics

A Layman's Understanding of U.S. Politics

Being a regular person that has an enormous amount of time to spend listening to all of the nonsense coming at us from every source imaginable it is sometimes hard to make sense out of our elected leaders ideas of what we need in the way of healthcare and such.

It seems like they want to make it so confusing that no one could begin to understand it.  The same is true of our IRS tax code.  No individual could possibly be smart enough to understand the whole thing, thus leaving us all inherently vulnerable to some kind of persecution or prosecution at the hands of a discontent or misguided leader or even worse, a discontent and/or corrupt beaurocrat.

{sidebar id=1}We see this every day of our lives on TV and in the newspaper and more recently, online.

When it comes to healthcare, it all seems so incredibly simple to correct the problems.  Yes, I agree that the current system is far from perfect, but I see no need to change the whole system when just a few changes are warranted.

This isn't rocket  science.  Being a problem solver my whole working life, this idea that we have to (forgive the cliche) throw out the baby with the bath water.  It is absurd and very insulting to those of us that have more than one working brain cell.  We have so many great things going for us in the present healthcare system.  How about keeping the good stuff and throw out the bad.  Make a few positive changes, pay for just the underinsured and uninsured, and save all the billions needed to completely overhaul the present system.

The Idea of replacing or overregulating our private healthcare is totally unnecessary.  The more I hear about it, the more I think this is all a great distraction.

Partisan politics drives me absolutely crazy.  How can one party completely ignore the other half and half the population's wishes and expect to pass this bill by any means?  It is political suicide and everyone knows it.  The Republicans had their chance and sat on their hands.  The Democrats are ignoring half the populous, and arrogantly tell everyone what is best for us.

Then there is this other little thing that we call the Constitution.  This Constitution thing really throws a wrench in the works, doesn't it?  My solution is to take what we have now, and just tweak a few things here and there, such as:  Tort reform, existing conditions, uniform interstate insurance laws to encourage competition, subsidies to encompass ALL underinsured and uninsured.  This would be a great start.

Then there is this other thing; THE GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT.  I have much more in common with these groups.  I don't want to overthrow the government, I just want our politicians to be honest, and listen to their constituents, and learn the Constitution and take it into consideration before passing ridiculous bills and laws that may change the way our system was designed by our forefathers.

I for one am fed up with the status quo in state, and federal government.and pray for our leaders to wake up before it is too late and we find ourselves living in a country that we no longer recognize.

What do you think?
