It’s hard to believe that half the school year has already flown by but that’s what happens when you’re having as much fun as we have here at the Pre-K. The New Year has brought many new things. We are growing so much that we have added two new classrooms. We would like to welcome our new teachers to our family. They are: Kristen Cleveland Siniscalshi, Cami Smith Bernales, Tiffany Sims, Elizabeth Vice, and Janice Blackwood. We would like to welcome Laura Kelley as the new Pre-K Staffing Specialist.
Now here’s a little up date from some of our classrooms. In Ms. Joy and Ms. Carolyn’s class they have been learning about jobs in the community. On January 19th they invited parents to come and talk to the class about their jobs. The students enjoyed hearing about the dentist office and the firefighters. Thanks so much to the parents for taking time out of their busy day to share.
In Ms. Carol and Ms. Amy’s class, upon returning from the
holidays they read the story “The After-Christmas Tree”. It’s a story
about how sad it is to put away decorations and to undecorate our
trees. So their class decided to have an “After-Christmas Tree Party”,
they strung colored cereal, oranges, and made pine-cone bird feeders to
redecorate the tree. They enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies while
sitting around the tree waiting for the birds to come! Their class
tree is “enjoying its second season of giving”.
Ms. Martha and
Ms. Eunice’s class has moved into a new classroom. They have been busy
arranging and decorating their new space. They have also welcomed new
friends into their new surroundings.
In Ms. Chris and Ms. Dena’s
class they have been learning about patterns. They clap and sing and
make patterns with anything that can be repeated. They use shapes to
build a pattern that went around the whole classroom. The children
made their own pattern necklace and some were able to extend their
pattern to four different colors.
In Ms. Alice’s and Ms.
Becky’s classroom they have been learning about Traditional Tales. In
their large group each student created their own tale and became the
storyteller. The students had lots of fun showing their creative side.
Ms.
Janie and Ms. Amber’s class have been learning about the circus. Their
class had cotton candy and made their own snow cones! As a finale the
children decorated animal masks and wore them in a musical parade
around the school.
In Ms. Sheila and Ms. Joanne’s Voluntary Pre-K
class they have been studying about Traditional Tales. Some of their
favorites have been “The Three Little Pigs” and “Goldilocks and the
Three Bears”. With the Three Little Pigs, the children built houses
made out of bricks (red paper rectangles), sticks (toothpicks), and
straw (yarn). With Goldilocks they made chairs of all sizes and set
the table with large, medium, and small bowls of pretend porridge.
Those are just a few examples of how their class has fun learning.
In
Ms. Rene’ and Ms. Susan’s class they have been talking about Cowboys
and Cowgirls. The children have been having a great time. They have
counted spines (toothpicks) off of a cactus and made beautiful
paintings with cow rope. The block area in the room has been turned
into a camp for the cowboys and cowgirls. The children have really
enjoyed the role play with the saddle and western clothes. They are
learning so much and having a wonderful time while they do so.
This
is the news from some of our classes we will tell you what is going on
in the other classes in the next VIEW. Until then, live to learn and
learn to live.
