Wakulla High Students Planning June 2007 Trip to Europe

Students Will Visit Europe

The Wakulla High School Science teachers who took students to Australia and New Zealand last June are planning another trip this June.  This trip will be an 11 day trip to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Lichtenstein departing approximately June 4, 2007.  Any Wakulla High School students are welcome to join us.  Any interested teachers, parents or grandparents are welcome as well.

Next, the participants will travel to Salzburg, Austria where they will take a fascinating tour of 450 year old salt mines via underground train and wooden slides.  Salzburg is the city of Mozart and the backdrop of the classic movie “The Sound of Music”.  This is to be followed by a railway ride to Hohensalzburg, the largest fortress in central Europe.  Participants will be amazed to see the magnificent castle of “Mad” King Ludwig.  This is the real life model for Disneyland’'s Sleeping Beauty Castle.  King Ludwig had this castle designed by stage designers to make it look like a dream.

Six days into the trip, the students and chaperones will make a brief stop in Lichtenstein, then make their way to Switzerland where they will get to see the magnificent Swiss Alps, the famous Lion Monument, and a covered bridge dating back to medieval days whose walls are lined with murals from the 14th century. The following excursion to Mount Pilatus and ride a cablecar up the mountain to witness the spectacular terrain will be a ride to remember.  Don’t forget to stock up on Swiss Chocolate while there!

The participants will transfer to Heidelberg via the Black Forest and the majestic Rhine Falls.  The Black Forest was the setting for the Brothers Grimm’s story Hansel and Gretel.  There are plenty of castles and palaces to see in Heidelberg as well.

On the ninth day of the tour, students will get to take a cruise past the Rhine Gorge to Boppard, where they’ will disembark.  There will be plenty of time for shopping in addition to the sight seeing tours.

On day 10, there will be a stop in Cologne to visit a Gothic Cathedral, and there will be a stop in Bonn to see the birthplace of Ludwig Van Beethoven.  The last planned event will be to visit the German History museum with artifacts from World War II to the present.

This will be the trip of a lifetime.  The cost of the trip is $2834 for students.  This includes airfare, accommodations, 2 meals daily and entrance fees to included sites.  Parents are welcome to join us as well.  The adult cost is approximately $200 more than the student cost because there will only be 2 adults per hotel room and 4 students per hotel room.  The deadline for signing up is December 22, 2006 with the final payment due by mid February.
