Wakulla High School Students Receive School District Employee Orientation

busattendants 300.gifOn the job training, directed by WHS Career Specialist Sarabeth Jones, is an extension of the WHS career and technical program.  Eight WHS students, Courtney Hartsfield, Michelle Lescoe, Chelsea Peltier, Susie Greenwood, Callie Farley, Shelby Gray, Whitney Taylor, and Anna Soloman were hired as student bus attendants for the 2008-2009 school year and started work Day 1.  The bus attendants will ride on select school buses, before and after school, with pre-school and handicap students.  They will provide assistance with student loading and unloading, special equipment, cleaning and student management.

Pat Jones, transportation coordinator said, “All of our bus attendants completed employee orientation and bus attendant in-service the week before school started.  They will also be identified by their school district badges.”   Sarabeth Jones adds, “These young ladies are on track to complete one of the eight career-technical programs housed at WHS.”

Superintendent David Miller congratulated the bus attendants and said, “On the job training enhances classroom experiences by providing hands-on child care, work ethics, and diversity training.  Taking classroom learning to real world experiences enhances student learning and impresses the importance of the principles of professional conduct.”
